We are so pleased to see so many of our fall kids showing interest in continuing on into our year round program! We are also happy to announce that Coach Pam Araujo has decided to continue coaching as a new member of our year round SeaWolves staff. Head Coach Derek Perkins along with the SeaWolves Board and coaching staff have welcomed her back to USA Swimming where she had started her coaching career working with Chris Danesi many years ago.

In February our swim practices will be moving back to the Heritage pool going into September. Dates and times will be announced soon.

Our BSW Water Polo team has been busy participating in multiple tournaments recently. We have been fortunate enough to have in the water, John Mix from Finis our team's corporate sponsor. He has extensive hands on knowledge at the highest level of the game! Coaches Derek Perkins and Nick Araujo have enjoyed having him come out and work with the kids. As we move forward into the next few months the SeaWolves team is anticipating future success with the scheduled up coming tournaments!

At this time I would like to encourage each swim member to make sure they are registered with www.usaswimming.org so each athlete can participate in the I.M. Xtreme Challenge. Please continue to read about how this works.

USA Swimming is very pleased to announce an exciting new program; the I.M. Xtreme Challenge. The IMX Challenge is a motivational program whereby swimmers will be scored and ranked nationally on their performance in a combination of five or six events. The purpose of the program is to promote versatility in age group swimming while advocating greater participation and development across a range of events that are integral to long term success in swimming.

Following is a series of key points detailing information about this new program:

Program Description
Swimmers will participate in a designated combination of five or six events and, based on the power points scored for each of those swims, earn a combined score that will be called the IMX Score. These combined scores will be ranked by single ages with rankings and recognition available on the USA Swimming website.

IMX Score
Using Hy-Tek's Single-Year Age Group Power Points, all USA Swimming registered athletes earn an "IMX Score" based on the cumulative point total of the combination of IMX events for their age level. The overall IMX score, as well as the swimmer's current best score for each IMX event, appears on the athlete's My USA Swimming page for each season. As times in these events improve, the swimmer's IMX score is automatically updated. In order to receive an IMX score, a swimmer must legally swim each IMX event for their age level in a sanctioned meet at least once during the season.

Age Groups and Events
The following single age groups and event combinations will be tabulated and scored for both men and women:

9 & Under; 10-year olds:
200 IM, 200 Free, 100 Back, 100 Brst, 100 Fly

11-year olds; 12-year olds:
200 IM, 400/500 Free, 100 Back, 100 Brst, 100 Fly

13, 14, 15, 16, 17, and 18 -year olds:
200 IM, 400 IM, 400/500 Free, 200 Back, 200 Brst, 200 Fly

How to Participate
Participation in this program is easy. Using the data available in the STAR database system, USA Swimming will automatically compute scores and results for all athlete members. Swimmers only need to compete in the IMX combination of events for their age group and they will be part of the program.

Website
The USA Swimming website now features several new pages related to the I.M. Xtreme Challenge:

  • Program Announcement Information
  • Find Your IMX Ranking
  • Current Year Top 100 Rankings - SC
  • Current Year Top 100 Rankings - LC
  • New IMX section of each My USA Swimming page

Time Period
The IM Xtreme Challenge will be tabulated annually for both the short course yard and long meter performances. Final short course rankings will be tabulated using results achieved between September 1 and May 31. Final long course rankings will be tabulated using results achieved from September 1to August 31.

Hy-Tek Single-Year Age Group Power Points
Rankings in the IMX program will be based on power points. Working in collaboration with USA Swimming, Hy-Tek has developed a power point system for each age level that allows for comparison of performances across strokes, distances and events, as well as between age groups. Please see the Power Points page and the IMX & Power Point Calculator for more information.

Recognition
Swimmers will be able to see their National Rank, Zone Rank, LSC Rank, and Club Rank on their My USA Swimming page. By clicking on the appropriate button next to the season a swimmer will also be able to see in the "IM Xtreme Season Details" section below the "Seasons" chart additional information about each season, such as the size of the ranked group and how the score was calculated. All rankings in this area are gender and age group specific.

The Find Your IMX Ranking page on the USA Swimming website will also maintain an up-to-date ranking of IMX scores that will provide rankings for top 7000 swimmers by both age and gender. USA Swimming will declare an IM Xtreme Challenge Champion for each age level and gender at the end of each short course and long course season. In the future, USA Swimming will also maintain and publish an all-time IMX Top 100 list.

No Practice on Monday, February 18th.

We are off to a great start! Both the coaches and swimmers have had a fantastic first week. We have some new faces to swimming as well as swimmers that have been on swim teams for years. Coaches Nicole and Derek have worked hard with the swimmers to create a practice that is challenging for the advanced swimmers as well as keeping new swimmers excited about coming to practice.

Our team sponsor Finis brought by some great new equipment for the team to try out last night.  Ask your swimmer what they thought about the cool equipment.  They have also left some swim suits and warm ups for the swimmers to try on before practice tonight. You can go to www.finisinc.com to purchase suits and equipment at 30% off of the retail prices. Please see your swimmer's file for a catalog and the discount code.

Reminders:

  • Get a friend to join the SeaWolves before the end of February and receive a swim suit, Jamba Juice card and movie passes.
  • We will continue to have hot chocolate after practice. If you have any hot chocolate mix that you can donate to the team it would be appreciated.
  • Some Pacific Swimmer cards have come in.  Check your swimmer file on deck.
  • Continue to check your e-mails for updates.
  • Please make sure your swimmers have warm clothing for after practice. Even though the days are getting warmer it is still very cold in the evenings.

1/29/2008

Meet and Greet

Come for the first few minutes of practice on February 4th for hot chocolate and cookies! Meet the coaches if you have not already had the opportunity. Members from the Board will also be available to answer any questions that you may have.

Important Message:
Please make sure that your registration paperwork and fees are in before January 31st so that we can submit it to USA Swimming for swimmer insurance. If your payment is late your swimmer will not be able to get into the water until their insurance has come through.

Thank you for your support in getting a great swim program up and running. See you at the pool!

1/23/2008

We have great news! We are ready to get into the water and begin practice. Coaches Nicole and Derek are looking forward to seeing the swimmers for the first day of practice on Monday, February 4th at the Freedom High School pool. Both the Silver and Gold Packs will begin at 6:00 pm with the Silver Pack practice ending at 7:00 pm and the Gold Pack ending at 8:00 pm. If you are unsure which level your swimmer is at, the coaches will be evaluating the swimmers and placing them in the appropriate group.

If you have not already done so, please send in your registration fee and first months swimming dues. The LUHSD is requiring payment up front for our monthly pool usage so we would appreciate prompt payment.

SeaWolves Winter Polo Update:
It is with great disappointment that we have to cancel the winter water polo session. The process for securing the pool space for the early January start turned out to be a much more time consuming process than we had anticipated. If you have already registered and paid for the winter session, refunds will be sent. We apologize for not being able to offer a winter program. Coach Derek will be coaching winter/spring swimming for anyone interested in getting in shape for the summer polo season. Check the SeaWolves website for more information on our swimming program.

SeaWolves Summer Polo Update:
Coaches Derek and Sam have a great summer polo program planned. The SeaWolves have already secured the pool space for this program and anticipate that it will fill up quickly. Look for more information on the summer polo program in the early spring.

Please make sure that your registration paperwork and fees are in before the first day of practice. Your swimmer will not be covered by USA swimming insurance and will not be able to swim if your paperwork and payment are not in. Tina Oteri will be available at the beginning of practice on February 4th to answer any questions or to help fill out any missing paperwork. Thank you for your support in helping us get a great swim program up and running. See you at the pool!

1/14/2008

We hope you've had a safe and memorable holiday season and Happy New Year to everyone! We are looking forward to an exciting first year with the team. The SeaWolves board wants to thank everyone for being so patient during this difficult startup time. Like all new endeavourers, it always takes more time then originally planned. We're confident the programs will exceed your expectations once we are in the water. We have worked hard to create affordable programs with high caliber coaching. We look forward to seeing you at the pool very shortly.

The board had hoped to get our programs started early January. Because of holiday schedules and the complexity of pool facility scheduling we will not be able to start the polo or swim programs for about 1-2 more weeks. We are in the final stages of pool space negotiations with the City of Brentwood and the Liberty Union High School district. We should have our contracts in place very shortly, which is great news!

We have meetings scheduled with the pool owners this coming week to finalize our summer time space and contracts. We also heard that our winter and spring contracts are being finalized this week as well. We will notify everyone the minute we have contracts secured.

We are extremely excited to let you know that over the holiday season the team has secured corporate sponsorship from one of the major manufacturers associated with our sport. We will announce the team's sponsor as soon as we have all the paperwork signed with them in the next couple of weeks. Check the website regularly for updates on this.

Thank you again for supporting your hometown team and we look forward to having a great year with everyone!

A home based swim club has been something the community has looked forward to for some time. One of the Brentwood SeaWolves main goals is to build a positive, safe, supportive, yet competitive swim environment for East County swimmers right in their home town. Another goal has been to make it a highly competitive swim club yet affordable for all who want to participate.

The Brentwood SeaWolves staff will focus on developing swimmers endurance, speed, technique, and self-discipline and help them reach their potential to compete at their highest levels.
